What is CBD?

CBD, also known as cannabidol, is the second most prevalent active component found in the cannabis plant. CBD can be extracted directly from hemp or cannabis plants, or synthesized in the lab. CBD does not produce a high on its own, and thus doesn't have the same potential for abuse or dependency as THC. CBD is believed to have potential in treating a variety of medical symptoms, including insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain, and neurological disorders.

Yes. CBD derived from hemp plants with less than 0.3% THC by dry weight are federally legal. In 2018, the United States Congress passed the Agriculture Improvement Act, removing hemp from the Controlleb Substances Act.

Is CBD legal in all states?

Although CBD is federally legal, states may put their own restrictions on it at a state level. States may categorize different types of CBD products differently and have different rules for different types of products. Is CBD legal for federal employees?

It is illegal for federal employees to use cannabis and any of its derivatives, including CBD. Despite CBD being legal at the federal level, federal employees cannot use it. Organizations linke the Department of Defense prohibit service members from eating or using any hemp-based products.

Is it legal to give a child CBD?

It is not legal to give a child CBD without a prescription. CBD should not be used in children unless specifically prescribed by a medical professional. The FDA has only approved CBD for children in the case of treating certain types of seizures, but medical permission must be granted.

Is CBD oil legal?

CBD oil is legal as long as it has 0.3% or less of THC by dry weight measure.

Do you need a permit to get CBD?

To purchase CBD, you do not need a permit as long as you are over 21. However, if you are selling CBD, a license may be required. States like California require CBD sellers to obtain a license.

Is CBD covered by health insurance?

Despite CBD's purported benefits, the FDA and health insurance companies do not recognize CBD as something that is coverable. You will have to pay out of pocket for any CBD products that you use for medical treatment.
