Alzheimer’s disease affects over 6 million patients in the United States alone and, while there are medications that can alleviate symptoms and therefore provide some temporary relief, there is no cure available on the market. Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects memory, cognitive abilities, and behavior. In other words, it slowly destroys memory and thinking skills.

A new study from China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing has found that CBD, which doesn’t carry the same psychoactive effects as THC, might not only enhance cognitive function, but offer protection against the specific protein which is a biomarker for the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. These findings imply that CBD could be helpful in alleviating and potentially preventing Alzheimer’s, especially in the early stages.

What are the Benefits of CBD?

At this point, CBD is fairly well-known as an effective pain reliever. Everyone from athletes to seniors can benefit from CBD’s physical effects: it’s a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Additionally, CBD has also been shown to have some positive nonphysical effects.

CBD directly interacts with the human body’s ECS, or endocannabinoid system. Scientists know that the ECS impacts several bodily functions like sleep, appetite, mood, immunity, pain and memory. By working with the ECS, CBD can help bring a state of homeostasis among these functions.

Not only can CBD help stabilize a person’s mood, but it can also help reduce stress and anxiety. In fact, some customers even use CBD to help heal post-traumatic stress. However, it should be noted that CBD can potentially interact with other medications, so you should always consult with your doctor before adding it to your regimen.

Can CBD Help Alleviate and Potentially Prevent Alzheimer’s?

This new study examines the therapeutic potential of CBD in Alzheimer’s disease. It showed that CBD does not cause significant cell death or damage. Alzheimer’s patients often suffer from memory loss and cognitive disturbances because of neuronal loss.

Aβ1–42 is a protein that is a biomarker associated with the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. In this study, scientists administered Aβ1–42 to mice and observed them in a water maze test. The mice treated with Aβ1–42 took longer to find the platform, showing cognitive issues. However, when treated with CBD, the mice were able to escape more quickly, suggesting that their cognitive functioning improved. This also implies that CBD might be able to boost spatial memory in Alzheimer’s patients.

This study suggests that CBD may be able to help mice that have memory and learning difficulties as a result of Alzheimer’s. Research is promising, so hopefully one day, CBD will prove to be an effective aid for people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Find High-Quality CBD Products with Real Tested CBD!

Although CBD shows great potential to reduce Alzheimer’s symptoms, it won’t work if customers purchase a low-quality product. Unfortunately, there are a lot of CBD oils that contain high traces of heavy metals, solvents, and pesticides on the market. The only way to avoid these unsavory compounds is to ask your CBD manufacturer for third-party lab test results, so that you can verify for yourself exactly what a product contains.
