CBD has become one of the most popular supplements on the market today, with some surveys showing that as many as 15% of all Americans had actually tried it as of last year – a number that has surely increased since then. CBD’s popularity stems from a wide array of businesses that have begun selling the compound, as well as the fact that some research shows that the compound can help to address many physical and emotional problems that people experience.

Obviously, many have found that CBD helps them feel better by addressing various challenges that they are experiencing. How CBD makes someone feel is an important question, as it can reduce many negative experiences and leave someone feeling much better than they did before taking the substance.

First, let’s take a look at how it can make you feel better. A huge part of CBD’s appeal is its ability to make you feel better on a physical and emotional level. There are many studies that show that CBD can help to remove pain and stress, two negative experiences that impact billions of people on a regular basis.

First, in terms of pain, many studies have found that CBD can help to reduce pain and lessen its impact. For example, a 2018 review that appeared in Molecules noted that cannabinoid-based drugs,  like CBD, had huge potential to reduce pain and inflammation. The same review discussed the various ways in which CBD could potentially be applied in a pain-reduction context, while also reviewing available positive evidence. Indeed, CBD has been shown to potentially be useful for a variety of specific conditions. These include:

  • Arthritis: A 2017 study in the journal Pain found that rats with arthritis showed reduced swelling and pain signs, as well as an increased movement when they were treated with CBD. Indeed, the Arthritis Foundation has actually published a list of best practices when it comes to CBD use.
  • Cancer treatment: A 2019 review in the Journal of the Association of Basic Medical Sciences found that CBD can help to not only alleviate pain but alleviate the pain caused by cancer treatments.
  • Multiple Sclerosis Spasticity: A 2018 study in Frontiers in Neurology found that CBD may have the ability to reduce pain and increase movement in people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis Spasticity.

Of course, it follows that, if CBD can reduce pain, it can make you feel better.

There are also many studies and countless anecdotal stories that indicate that CBD may be able to help limit stress. For example, a large case study series from 2019 found that a majority of participants showed improved sleep and lowered anxiety after using CBD. A 2015 review that appeared in Neurotherapeutics came to similar conclusions but noted that further research was needed. Furthermore, a 2020 study that first appeared in Psychopharmacology found that anxiety and stress levels were reduced in people who were put into a stressful social situation if the individuals in question first consumed CBD.

While more research is needed, it seems highly possible that CBD may have an important role in reducing stress, thus helping people feel better.  However, CBD’s potential abilities seem to go beyond what it can do in terms of negative emotions and experiences. Many have also reported that CBD helps them feel calmer, more relaxed, and at peace. Further evidence is needed to confirm this claim in a scientific manner, but on the surface, it does make sense: After all, if CBD can truly help remove pain and stress, it follows that taking the compound might help you feel more at peace.
